Our Mission
Protecting our oceans through education and inspiring conservation through award-winning content.
Oceanic Research Group, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ocean conservation. Founded in 1990, our principal mission has been the production of educational films and resources designed to increase awareness of marine environments and species.
Educational Films for Tomorrow’s Ocean Stewards
Our classroom-focused educational films have earned over a dozen prestigious awards, including the CINE Golden Eagle, Kids First, and CINDY awards. We develop comprehensive film series based on classroom curricula and specialized ocean studies topics. Our flagship program, Jonathan Bird’s Blue World, is a host-driven marine exploration series that brings the wonders of the ocean directly into classrooms worldwide.
Digital Learning Resources
Our Wonders of the Sea section stands as the most visited part of our website, providing students with engaging lessons in marine biology across diverse species and ecosystems. This educational resource has earned recognition from the National Science Teachers Association with the prestigious “SciLinks” award and has welcomed over one million visitors seeking to deepen their understanding of ocean life.
Supporting Future Marine Scientists
Our marine scholarship program provides crucial financial support to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in ocean-related studies. Through our annual fundraising events, we’re able to award tuition assistance that helps the next generation of marine scientists and conservationists achieve their educational goals.
Broadcasting Ocean Awareness
While our primary focus remains educational programming for schools, we also produce content that bridges classroom learning with broader public awareness. Our educational films have aired worldwide, extending our mission of ocean conservation beyond traditional educational settings to reach global audiences.
Our giant screen films bring the majesty of the ocean to life on large-format screens such as IMAX, offering immersive experiences in museums and science centers around the world. These large-format productions allow audiences to experience marine environments in stunning detail, inspiring wonder and conservation action on a grand scale.
